Now that the weekend is here, the kids need something to do. So, why not create your own weekend camp for your kids? The best part of camp is doing great craft projects that get the imagination going. Therefore, step number one in starting your own weekend camp is to set up projects that they can do on their own or with just a little bit of supervision from you. Here are some crafty projects that you can set up quickly and easily.
One project is to fill empty bottles with coloured sand. All you need is an empty bottle (with lid), sand (from either the beach or the store), coloured chalk, wax paper and a funnel. Start by putting a small bit of sand on the wax paper. Then roll the chalk in the sand until the sand changes colour. Next, use the funnel to fill the bottle with the coloured sand. Finally, repeat these steps using different coloured chalk until the bottle is completely filled. Put the lid on the bottle. If you like, you can create a label for the bottle putting the year or the name of the beach the sand came from.
Another project is to make your own pinwheels. Start by cutting out 4 squares from construction paper. On each square, cut a line from each corner to almost the middle of the square. Then take one corner and fold it over to the center. Glue the corner to the center. Repeat this process of folding each corner to the center and gluing it in place. Hold the paper together until the glue has dried. Then use a stick pin to attach the center of the pinwheel to the eraser part of a pencil. Give the pinwheel a gentle tug to see if it will spin easily. Once you are happy with the way the pinwheel spins, then use stickers or glitter glue to decorate the pinwheel. Finally, take it outside and let the wind spin the pinwheel around and around.
A third project kids can make is to decorate their very own hat. This way they’ll want to wear their hat more and that will help protect them from the sun. Buy a variety of craft jewels and fabric paint and let your child decorate the hat anyway that they want. Tip: If you buy jewels, you can attach them to the hat with permanent fabric glue. Don’t use white craft glue or a hot glue gun, as this will not stick to the fabric.
A fourth project you can do is to have the kids make their own clay beads for necklaces and bracelets. Simply take some no-bake modeling clay (choose a variety of colours) and take a few pinches from two colours or more. Roll the clay together until it forms a small ball – either round or oval. If you are using more than one colour, you’ll end up with a marble effect with all the colours mixed together. Once you have rolled the clay into a small ball, then stick the ball on a wooden skewer. Remember to keep the balls from touching one another and let the clay balls dry for 3-4 hours. Once they are dry, take them off the skewers and they’re ready to make them into necklaces and bracelets.
Another project idea for kids is to create their own pet rocks or pet seashells. Start by gathering some rocks and seashells from the beach. Then put some newspaper on the table and put out a variety of supplies like paint, rolly eyes, miniature doll clothes, beads or anything else you want. Then let your kids go wild and create their own pets by gluing them together, painting them and gluing on eyes or whatever else they want. They’re cute and a great way to keep the kids busy.

When you start a craft project, do you end up spending more time looking for your tools and supplies than you do actually working on your craft? If you do, you are not alone! If you do any type of crafting or creative work, the supplies you use can quickly spread out and take over your home. The more crafts and hobbies you do, the more need you have for organization.
Organizing your supplies and tools will allow you to quickly locate the items you need to complete a craft. Organization will also save you money you won’t need to run out at the last minute and purchase a new pair of scissors or skein of yarn to replace the one you can’t find!
There are two different ways to organize your craft supplies, and chances are one will be better for you than the other. If you only work on one or two types of crafts, like scrapbooking and knitting, it is easier to make yourself a complete kit for each craft. That way you can pull out your scrapbooking bag and get started, without grabbing tools from a bunch of different locations.
If you do a huge variety of crafts– beading one day, sewing the next, and making soap a week later, then you should organize your supplies by type. That way you won’t need to dig through your sewing stuff to find your scissors every time you want them for a project.
Organizing by Craft:
If you decide to organize your supplies by the type of craft they are for, make a kit for each craft you do. Ideally, the kit will include everything you use to complete the craft, along with your tools and raw materials.
Start by gathering all of the supplies you have into one area. Doing this will allow you to get an idea of exactly how many items you have, and how big of a container you will need to store them. Once you have everything in one place, select or purchase a container to fit all of the items. Check out the storage section of your local craft store, and the scrapbook section as well– croppers have mastered the art of storage, and you can use their pieces for any craft you’d like. You should also check out the selection of tackle boxes at your local sporting goods store, they are designed with small items in mind.
Pick up an inexpensive pencil box for tools like scissors, tweezers, needles, and related items, so you can find what you need quickly. Use small containers like film canisters and plastic storage containers to hold little items so they don’t get lost.
Place your items in the storage container, with the largest things like books, fabrics, and other big pieces on the bottom. Top with the smallest items, and close the lid. When you are ready to work on a project, simply pull out your box and get started, without wasting time looking for loose items and supplies.
Organizing by Type of Supply:
Creative people often excel in more than one area. It is not unusual for someone who enjoys on craft like quilting to spread out into beading, embroidery, or even knitting. As they learn more techniques, they acquire more supplies. If this sounds like you, you will probably work best if you sort your items by type.
Having all of your fabrics in one location can help you pick out things for a project very quickly. If you sort them by color, you can get a good sense of what you have and what you need, before you head to the store. You can also store all of your scissors and cutting tools together, and grab a handy pair whether you are sewing or working on a paper craft.
Begin by sorting your items by type – put all the beads in one location, all the fabrics in another. Markers and pens stored together, as can adhesives. Choose a container for each type of item, and label the container. That way when you work on a project you can gather what you need, and get a good sense of what supplies you have on hand.
Organizing in this way can help the creative process as well – sometimes just seeing your materials all together can help you see things in a new light, and trigger new ideas.
No matter which technique you choose, organizing your stash of craft supplies can help you find things quickly, and spend more time crafting and less time seeking out lost items.
Whether you’re looking for craft supplies or finished items, Factory Direct Craft has it all. If you feel the creative urge, you can get just about any craft supplies you may need. Whatever you need we’re sure to have!

If you are a crafter or scrapbooker, you probably know someone who is as enthusiastic about making things as you are. And you probably also know many others who have never tried crafting and swear they don’t have a creative bone in their bodies. Both types of friends are a great opportunity to share your love of crafting, with a “made to order” Crafting Kit as a special gift.
When creating a gift for the seasoned crafter or scrapbooker, get a feel for what they already love. Is it fabric crafts? Candles? Stenciling or stamping? Card making? What are their tastes in colors, styles and embellishments? What have they finished lately – and what projects have been languishing?
For the non-crafters in your life (who need some serious converting), consider what other interests they have. Do they travel? Raise a family? Cook or read? Do they admire certain artists or decorating styles? Do they like the things you create?
Now, think about these craft kit gift ideas. They are more than gifts – they are an opportunity to create something wonderful.
Candlemaking 101
Take an aluminum saucepan – an old one is fine – or buy a new wax melting pot. Fill it with the basics: paraffin, stearic acid, candle wicks, a wax thermometer, fragrance oils, and wax dyes (or crayons). Include a mold and instructions. For the seasoned candle maker, get extravagant with the scents and dyes, as well as specialty wicks. Tie it all up in a ribbon.
Embroidery Fun
Take an embroidery hoop and several needles, a pattern and instructions, and enough embroidery thread to finish it. Fold them all into a plain shirt or jacket that is crying for embellishment and place in pretty box. Choose the difficulty of the pattern for the beginner or expert.
Beading Time
Start with an empty egg carton. Fill each compartment with an assortment of beads, sequins, and other stringables. Include several yards of beading thread or wire, and instructions for an appropriate project like a pin or bracelet.
Decoupage Your Heart Out
Start with a plain paper mache box or container, or an empty cigar box. Fill it with the essentials: decoupage medium, brushes in various sizes, manicure scissors, and patterned paper, collage sheets, or printed vintage images. Write “Decoupage Me” on the box and tie with a ribbon.
Crochet Anyone?
Begin with a simple sewing case or gift bag. Fill it with several crochet hooks and skeins of yarn, a yarn needle and a beginner’s book of small projects.
Stamping Mad
Into a gift box, put an assortment of rubber stamps for an upcoming holiday or event, stamp pads in several colors, a blender pen, and blank card stock and envelopes. Address one to you.
Paper Mache Dreams
Combine a package of small, round balloons, a bottle of liquid starch, craft paints, and instructions for several beginner projects like hanging jack o’lanterns, Easter Eggs or Christmas balls. Wrap the box in newspaper with a bow made of torn strips.
Stencil It In
Fill a plain paper mache or cardboard gift box with an assortment of small craft stencils, acrylic paints, tape or stencil adhesive, and stencil brushes, as well as spray varnish or lacquer.
Gingerbread Mobile Home
For the cook, find a good gingerbread house project, buy all of the imperishable ingredients, forms and decorations, throw in a set of wooden spoons, and deliver it all in a basket saying “Congratulations On Your New House!”
Ribbon, Ribbon, I’ve Been Thinkin’
For the amateur weaver, find project instructions of simple woven placemats made of ribbon on a fusible web backing. Supply the plans, the webbing, and all of the ribbon for a full set. Put it in a bog with the tag “I’ll be over for dinner in three weeks.”
Scraps Again?
Select a recent photographed event in your friend’s life. Gather together a small scrapbook, appropriate papers and embellishments to fit the theme. Add whatever essentials, like glue sticks and mounting squares, you think will be necessary. Present them in a gift bag, with an offer to go through the photos and help get the layout planned.
I hope these ideas are enough to get your creative engine turning. These gifts can be made even more personal with your offer to help them get started. You may discover that you have kindled a dormant crafting interest – or sparked an aficionado’s ambitions. These are truly gifts that keep giving – in fact, the final creation may come back to you with “interest.”

Making your own beaded cards is a rewarding and fun bead project. Have you been to the bookstore and searched for the card that’s just right for a special occasion, but it’s just not there? There’s an easy solution of course, and that is to make your own.
If, like me, you enjoy bead craft even just adding beads to the ordinary card you find on the shelves can be a quick solution.
There are certain materials you need for your bead project cards, starting with heavy quality paper or card. This can be purchased in many color ranges and can be embossed or patterned. And what is a craft without glue and scissors? These are necessary items for any project. Adhesives available are: glue stick, glue dots, double-sided adhesive tape or adhesive foam pads.
If you are new to beading it won’t be long before you find yourself looking for beads of different sizes and shapes – it’s very addictive. Why not use buttons and bows for your design? If you’re like me and hate to throw things away, that ‘may be useful one day’ item could be just the right thing for your project. You’ve no doubt got a box of old buttons lurking in your sewing box. These can make useful additions to your greeting card too.
Make a collage of different fabrics, stitch them with running stitch in different colors and place beads throughout the design for interest. There are many fabrics you can use such as pieces of old curtain, off-cuts of lace etc. While beads can be glued to your cards you can make small items such as hearts, wedding cake, bell, crown, a vase and so on. Make these small decorations with beads and 28-gauge wire. Attach these to the card with one of the adhesives.
Making beaded cards are your own little masterpieces of art. Have fun coming up with ideas and enjoy the delight on the recipient’s face…it’s sure to stay on the mantelpiece longer than most!

Craft projects can vary according to the materials you’re using and what you intend to make. The beauty of using beads in your craft projects are they are easy to work with, and there is an extensive range of colors, sizes and materials they can be made from, to fit in with any craft project you have in mind.
Beads can be used on their own to make beautiful pieces of crafted jewelry, bookmarks, belts etc or you can use them in combination with other materials to embellish the items. Creating items with beads or bead embellishments can be as simple or as difficult as you like, some will require you to have a step by step guide whilst other projects you can just use your creative know how.
By taking a plain material handbag or shopping bag you can frost it with some beads and transform it instantly into a glitzy bag. To apply the beads to the bag or any fabric you can use fabric glue to stick the beads in place or alternatively you can sew them by hand. Although gluing down beads to fabric seems like the easiest option, you’ll find over time the beads will come unstuck from use or when you wash the item. Hand sewing is the best option to fix beads in place because it’s more durable, and it will be a lot easier to wash the hand bag or item you have in mind.
Using both bead adhering techniques will give you the flexibility to use them in different projects without compromising the quality. Beads are so much fun to work with even children enjoy crafting with them. Sometimes using beads instead of color pencils or paint can help to improve their creativity and hand co-ordination.
Children enjoy crafting projects with beads as they can make beautiful bead posters by simply gluing down the beads. Giving them smaller beads for a craft project will help improve their hand and eye co-ordination and encourage their creativity.
Adults and children can create amazing craft projects using a range of beads, perhaps patterns or they can use their own ideas to make every bead creation look unique. Just keep an open mind and let your creativity flow.

Children delight in arts and crafts. Being creative and tapping into their imagination is what they do best. Any opportunity to hone those crafting skills kids openly volunteer. It’s a fun way to entertain children while improving their cognitive skills. Learning how something works and creating an object is fascinating way for children to spend extra time. A couple hours of paper or wood crafts can be a bonding period between you and your child. Crafts can also be a great activity to keep children busy during rainy days, holiday breaks and weekends.
There are six easy kids crafts that any parent can do with their child at home. The most common craft project for children is pasta art. All you need is several pieces of colorful construction paper, glue, and a box of dry macaroni noodles. Using different type of pasta like penne can make the art more interesting. Kids love to play around with the set aside pile of dry noodles. It’s an amusing activity for them. Finger painting runs a close second place for easy kids crafts. The big kid in all of us loves to get messy. Painting is a great form of expression. Children practice finger dexterity as they dip and glide their little fingers across the paper. Laying down old newspaper and putting special play clothing on your kids that you don’t mind being damaged will relieve you of a stressful clean-up.
Wood crafts are not as demanding as they may sound. The third easiest kids craft involves wood products. It’s magnets. This is a simple project that children can have lots of fun with. To make wood magnets purchase unfinished wood shapes, paint, magnet strips that are self-adhesive or a hot glue gun for standard magnets. Let your child paint their wooden toy parts or shapes and then set to dry. After they’ve added any extra types of decorations such as glitter or beads attach magnets and hand on refrigerator door. The kids will smile every time they walk into the kitchen to admire their masterpiece.
Marionette is the fourth easy kids crafts. Get creative as you explore the puppet making craft. There are numerous options when constructing puppets. The easiest form to make is the sock puppet. A little glue and felt goes a long way when creating your puppet creature. Any supplies laying around the house will suffice. If you’d like to put on a more sophisticated show than make a wooden puppet using wood dowels and fishing line to move your wooden puppet. There are kits available to help you produce this amazing puppet effortlessly. Kids can put on their own puppet shows whenever they wish to.
The fifth craft project many children enjoy is making wooden frames. Most wooden frames come already assembled in unfinished wood. All you have to do is paint and decorate to your liking. Attaching wood balls, finials, or small toy wheels to the frame edges create a dramatic effect. Children can spend hours adding glitter and painting. Similar to the previous project the sixth easy kid craft idea is wooden door signs. Taking a piece of plywood allowing your child while supervising carefully saw it into their desired shape or buying precut pieces and decorating is a favorite among children. They love hanging their door sign in their room. Remember when crafting with children creativity and patience is key.

Girls seem to be naturally attracted to arts and crafts, but boys are sometimes a different matter. If you’re running a summer camp, holding a crafts party or just want to get your sons involved in a neat project, you may be scratching your head when it comes to craft ideas. Fortunately, there are several categories of crafts that attract boys of all ages.
Nature Crafts
Nature crafts are a good choice for boys. This allows them to go out into the wilderness and gather the materials.
A great nature craft idea is “Forest Friends.” These crafts are easy to make and will allow the boys to work off some of that excess energy. Take them to the park and ask them to gather leaves, twigs and pinecones.
When you return back home from the park, let the boys decorate their finds with googly eyes and puff balls. Use Gorilla Glue or another multi-purpose glue that will adhere to the natural surfaces. Make faces on the leaves and pinecones, and then attach the twigs for bodies. You can make limbs from construction paper and the boys will have nature-inspired puppets to play with for the rest of the day.
Character Crafts
Boys like creating crafts that help them pretend they are their favorite heroes and characters. Pirates are very popular these days, so any pirate-related crafts will be well received. You can provide the supplies to make a construction paper or sewn felt eye patches, depending on the age of the boys.
Every pirate needs a parrot, so there’s another simple craft idea. Use old toilet paper tubes, feathers and markers so each boy can have a personal parrot sidekick. Boys will also enjoy making treasure chests from old shoeboxes and treasure maps to find their loot from paper bags and markers.
Science Crafts.
If you have an older group of boys to entertain with crafts, don’t underestimate the power of science-themed crafts. These crafts are part science experiment, part craft. One example of a science themed craft is invisible writing. For this craft, you’ll need a laxative tablet, one tablespoon of rubbing alcohol, cotton balls and ammonia.
Crush the tablet into a container and then add the alcohol. Have the boys use paintbrushes to create their secret messages. As the ink dries, it will disappear. To see the message, simple have them rub the pieces of paper with cotton balls soaked in ammonia. It’s not the most pleasant smelling craft, but it sure is a lot of fun!
As long as you keep boys active and engaged, they’ll have as much fun with crafts as girls do. Although they aren’t patient enough for beaded lanyards, they have activities and interests that can engage them just as much. So before you assume that boys and crafts just don’t mix, try some of these ideas.

How Electric Pressure Cookers Work

Are you a child minder or an after school club looking for craft projects suitable for kids groups? Maybe you feel like you are just not the creative type, and you find the thought of coming up with ideas for craft projects rather daunting. Some people just have a knack for finding or even inventing craft ideas, but your creativity can be improved. There are ways to make it easier to find craft projects suitable for kids needs.
First, forget about perfectionism, and remember the golden rule, kids just want to get stuck in, enjoy the activity and achieve quick results. Regardless of the kids group you are dealing with, there are always many suitable craft projects and ideas out there. If you’ve taken into consideration the age and skill levels of the kids involved, your choice should be adequate.
An aspect of creativity that the non-creative types don’t realize is that ideas spring from other ideas. For instance you could spend hours looking over books of craft projects, only to find that none of those particular ideas appeal to you, but if you let them, they will spark an idea for a similar project.
When choosing a craft project for kids groups, you need to be aware that some of the ready made kits can be expensive. Pre-packaged kits to make collage pictures or a fun foam picture frame are affordable for small groups of kids, but if you are planning a craft session with lots of kids, these ready made kits will cost too much.
The solution is easy, to do almost exactly the same project take note of the craft kit contents and buy the same materials in bulk at the local discount store.
With this option you may have to do more preparation, like cutting out shapes ahead of time, or at least making cardboard patterns for the kids to use in cutting out their own shapes, but the savings will be well worth the effort.
Alternatively make one of your sessions into a fun craft preparation class, where you would split the kids into groups, and give each group a different preparation task. of collecting different required materials, drawing their own shapes etc for the following craft project making session. Remember, with kids groups it does not have to be perfect, use what you have and create the remainder.
If the craft seems a little girly, then it won’t work well in boys groups. Stick with kite making, mask making, and similar projects. Girls will like beads, sequins and anything that’s pink or purple. For a craft idea for kids groups with kids of both sexes, keep it on the boyish side and provide some pink materials to keep the girls happy.
For instance, if you’re making Indian feathered head dresses, let the girls decorate their feathers with sequins and glitter, or tissue paper flowers for the headband part.
A final suggestion is to realize that craft projects are all about having fun, so choose a craft idea, let the imagination run riot, and let the kids get creating.

Crafts are any project that involves a step by step procedure to achieve an end result. There are many kinds of crafts one can do, like beading, paper folding, sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting or card making. The list is endless. And craft activities can be done with kids. It enhances their creativity and it is a good opportunity also to bond with them.
Craft making is one personal way of showing the creativity of a person. This shows the love and affection of the creator. The gifts that are made from craft making are usually designed specially for the receiver. Even though crafts are homemade, it does not need to be simple or out from the scratch. You can actually make crafts that are specially designed.
You can ask any assistance from persons who have knowledge of craft to help you make one craft that is beautiful and creative. If you are going to do crafts, you would certainly need to buy a few supplies to be able to make your craft possible. The crafts that you will do will have to depend to the age of your craft receiver. Craft activities are time consuming but the time usually pass by quickly when you are well into what you are doing.
The bonding moment easily ensues as the parents and kids help each other out towards perfecting a certain project. All of the group members partake in giving suggestions to make the craft project turn out beautiful. And while doing their own assignments in the project, it is a great opportunity also to talk or bring up some concerns.
Indulging in crafts with your kids is a good way to imbibe social interaction in them at an early age. This is better compared to immersing your kids to playing computer games all day long alone in their rooms.
Making crafts enhances mental thinking. Children become quick-witted as they think of ideas always for new craft projects. Besides this, they also slowly learn how to decide for themselves, even if it is just making small decisions at first, like what color or materials to use.
Crafts also are an avenue for children to express their individualities. And the sense of self-satisfaction at the end of the project is priceless. It promotes self-confidence and self-esteem.
There are many craft stores in the malls. Buying the basics is not difficult or expensive. For starters, you can get glue sticks, stickers, paints, papers, foams, beads, glitters, markers, crayons and scissors.
As a child is well under way any kind of craft, he will get ideas on how to make it more beautiful, and you can help him procure the extra materials during the process. The ideas will just pour in as he becomes more familiarized with what he is doing. The ideas will also come to him as he tries to break the monotony of the project. His mind will be forced to think of new ways to liven up the project.
There are many simple craft ideas you can do with your kids for starters. Examples are straw painting, aluminum foil sculptures, squeeze balls, toothpick sculpture, piper cleaner art, fingertip pictures, envelope art, clay molding and windsock. There are many reference materials you will find in libraries, bookstores or craft stores for easy step by step procedures.
As the children develop their interest in crafts, you can move on to more complex projects. It will not be long before you find your children inventing their own designs already.
