Making jewelry with beads is becoming hugely popular, and with good reason. You can basically make whatever you want, in whatever style you like, in whatever colors you choose. Every creation is unique. But if you’re just starting out, making a beaded bracelet can seem a bit overwhelming. There are plenty of different things you need to consider when making a bracelet.
The first step is to get together the necessary tools and elements you need for your bracelet. Most good craft stores will carry a good range of at least the basic tools you need, so you can go there to search for tools, wire, fasteners and string. They will most likely have a good range of beads for you to choose from as well.
If you’re keen to do something a little bit more complicated, or you find your craft store’s selection a bit limited, you can check out a dedicated beading store. But be warned – it’s very hard to get out of one these stores without falling in love with far too many beads and spending more than you plan to! Beading stores can be a little more expensive, but you benefit from a huge range of beads in all colors, shapes and styles. When you start a craft project, do you end up spending more time looking for your tools and supplies than you do actually working on your craft? If you do, you are not alone! If you do any type of crafting or creative work, the supplies you use can quickly spread out and take over your home. The more crafts and hobbies you do, the more need you have for organization.
Organizing your supplies and tools will allow you to quickly locate the items you need to complete a craft. Organization will also save you money you won’t need to run out at the last minute and purchase a new pair of scissors or skein of yarn to replace the one you can’t find!
There are two different ways to organize your craft supplies, and chances are one will be better for you than the other. If you only work on one or two types of crafts, like scrapbooking and knitting, it is easier to make yourself a complete kit for each craft. That way you can pull out your scrapbooking bag and get started, without grabbing tools from a bunch of different locations.
If you do a huge variety of crafts– beading one day, sewing the next, and making soap a week later, then you should organize your supplies by type. That way you won’t need to dig through your sewing stuff to find your scissors every time you want them for a project.
Organizing by Craft:
If you decide to organize your supplies by the type of craft they are for, make a kit for each craft you do. Ideally, the kit will include everything you use to complete the craft, along with your tools and raw materials.

Place your items in the storage container, with the largest things like books, fabrics, and other big pieces on the bottom. Top with the smallest items, and close the lid. When you are ready to work on a project, simply pull out your box and get started, without wasting time looking for loose items and supplies.
Organizing by Type of Supply:
Creative people often excel in more than one area. It is not unusual for someone who enjoys on craft like quilting to spread out into beading, embroidery, or even knitting. As they learn more techniques, they acquire more supplies. If this sounds like you, you will probably work best if you sort your items by type.
Having all of your fabrics in one location can help you pick out things for a project very quickly. If you sort them by color, you can get a good sense of what you have and what you need, before you head to the store. You may not want to take your children to New Orleans to party, but Mardi Gras crafts for children can be an excellent way to celebrate at home.
Masks are a necessity for a good party, and children love these! You can print out patterns that you find online or make your own by drawing on paper. Some favorites are butterflies for the girls and eagles for the boys. Once you have your mask on paper, glue it to a piece of cardboard or heavy paper. You can reuse old boxes, such as cereal boxes or the kind that can sodas come in. Then, cut around your design. Remember to cut out holes for the eyes. Younger children may need some help with this part. Finally, decorate with feathers, sequins, glitter, or whatever else your heart desires.
It wouldn’t be Mardi Gras without the beads! Here is a fun way to make some of your own. For this you will need clay. You can buy it from the store or make some at home. A simple recipe for making it yourself: Mix 4 cups flour, 1 cup salt, and 1 ½ cups water. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes. Then take the dough and form it into your beads. Use a toothpick or straw to put a hole through the beads so you can string them later. Place beads on a cookie sheet and put in a 300 degree oven for about 5 minutes, or until the dough gets hard. Then paint your beads in your favorite Mardi Gras colors and string them on yarn or string to make your necklace.
Every Mardi Gras needs a float as well. First, cut the flaps off of a cardboard box. Flip the box over and cut a circle out of the bottom of the box. This will be so the child can wear the float. Make shoulder straps using ribbon or elastic which you can glue or staple to the inside of the circular hole. Then you can decorate any was you wish. Some great ideas include paint, crumpled tissue paper, shredded paper, or balloons. Make a few and your children can have their own parade.
Finally, a noise maker is essential for your party. You can make a simple one using paper plates. Decorate the bottom of the plates with crayons, markers, or paint. Tape streamers or ribbon to the front side of one of the plates. Next, tape or glue a Popsicle stick or craft stick to the streamer side of the plate. Get the other plate and staple or tape it to the first one. Before you finish stapling, put a small amount of rice or dried beans inside the plate so it will make noise.
Another cute idea is to make necklaces using yarn and macaroni or other dry pasta. You can color or paint the pasta for more fun. Another twist would be to use food, such as Cheerios or Life Savers to make necklaces with.

You’ll want to make sure that your string for the lei is long enough to go around your neck and still have plenty of leeway for tying together at the ends. Finally you simply string the beads together and tie the ends of the tread together, you may want to use some glue to either hold the last beads in place or to hold the knot on the string together. Otherwise there is a chance the beads will go flying everywhere if the knot comes undone.
If you want to use some flowers, you’ll need to put a hole through them to string them together. However, you should remember that unless you use dried flowers, they will wither and die on the lei. “

Not only can you look great by making your own beaded jewelry you can also have a blast while you create to your hearts content. The first creation you should consider making is a beaded necklace for its elegance and simplicity. The second creation you should consider making is some beaded earrings.
Before you begin go to a bead or craft store so you can buy some supplies. The only things you really need to start are some thread or wire and some inexpensive beads. Always start with the inexpensive beads to learn with then move onto your favorite gem stones once you have the basics down.
Let’s make a beaded necklace first. In the bead or craft store buy some thread or wire, beads, two crimps and a clasp. Next use more thread than you will actually need so you will have enough to attach the clasp with. Layout your beads on the table in the desired pattern you wish to make on the necklace. Now you can string the beads onto the middle of the thread or wire in your desired pattern. Use a piece of tape at the end of each pattern to hold your place. You can also use a spacer bead instead of the tape.
At each end slide one of the crimps onto the thread or wire. Add one half of the clasp, then string the thread back through the crimp and use needle nose pliers and press firmly on the crimp. Now you can remove the tape.
Now you can wear your creation and start all over again to make more. Once you have the knack you will never run out of ideas. So pursue your new found hobby with all the energy you can muster. You’ll find it not only fun but also a great way to learn different avenues of self expression.
Next let’s make some beaded earrings. First here are the supplies you will need: 2 head pins ( or eye pins as they are sometimes called), 4 spacers, 4 beads, and 2 fishhook ear wires. Next you will begin by putting the beads on in a simple pattern: bead, spacer, bead, spacer, like that. Ok, now follow closely, make a loop right above the top bead: using needle nose pliers, bend the pin at a 90 degree angle. Then using round nose pliers, form a loop. Wrap the wire on the other side of the loop, back around the wire (in between the loop and the bead). Now cut with wire cutters. Next, take the fish hook ear wire, and open the loop. Attach your drop and close the loop. Repeat for the second earring.
Limitless adventures — that is what you’ll have now that you have mastered the first step in creativity. You’ll amaze yourself the more you allow yourself to develop and play. Don’t put restraints on your designs, instead just let them flow freely. Even if something seems like a long shot take a chance — what have you got to lose? Never again will you be afraid to walk into a new adventure. Fun and excitement is what you carry inside of you now. Watch it explode and mature as you allow yourself to develop your own style and grace. Remember today is the first day of the rest of your creative life.
